Night Dreaming

I look outside the window,

The moon is bright and beautiful,

The night is eerily quiet,

I wonder if you are at work,

Scrolling through your phone,

Hopefully looking at my pictures,

I wonder if you drink alone,

Hopefully drowning in my memories,

I sip my midnight coffee,

The rich aroma and flavour transport me,

I am back in the crowded cafe,

Holding your hand,

Laughing giddily and dropping my glass in the process,

I am brought back by the sound of dogs barking at ghosts outside,

I take out an old bracelet you gave me,

The days in which your unwavering attention was mine,

I fight the urge to calculate the distance that separates us,

I fight the urge to look at airline costs,

I finish my coffee instead,

That was dedicated to you,

It’s a roast you love and one I hate,

I look outside the window,

The moon was now half full,

Just like our dreams.
